Welcome!

For more than a decade, the Institute for Children and Poverty has been creating storybooks to teach children about family homelessness.

Home at Last is the next step in our effort to raise awareness about the issue of childhood homelessness. This page contains information and tools that children, parents, and educators can use, including our latest resource, the Home at Last DVD, with animated stories about homelessness based on four of our children's books: Our Wish, Cooper's Tale, Saily's Journey, and Voyage to Shelter Cove.

In addition to information about the books and DVD, this website contains a Learning Toolbox for educators, as well as ideas for children, parents, and educators about how they can help homeless families in their own communities.

In the near future, you will also be able to find bonus content such as interviews with the children's book authors who read the stories aloud: Amada I. Perez, Chris Raschka, Christopher Myers, and Joseph Bruchac. Extended footage of their reading sessions will also be available.

Our goal is to provide you with the information and ideas you need to help in your own school and neighborhood. It takes a community to end homelessness, and we can all be a part of that effort.
