Employment is esential for a homeless parent to maintain housing. For
that reason, job training and placement are critical components of the
American Family Inn Model. Without a secure job and income, homeless
parents will never be able to move away from public dependency and out
of poverty. Homes for the Homeless has created programs that address
the lack of employment experience and job readiness that all too often
are a part of life for a homeless parent.
These
job readiness and training programs combine workshops with on-site
internships to assist families in developing the professional skills
and experience necessary to find and retain employment. Job developers
provide intensive job placement services as well as on-the-job support.

Taking
job training one step further, the TASK program teaches parents
advanced computer and business technology skills, allowing them to find
jobs that pay a living wage and/or advance in their current job. The
skills training is accompanied by intensive job placement and retention
efforts.

Family
Works is an on-site internship experience offered to parents who lack a
work history and have few job skills. After completing TAG, SEED, or
TASK, graduates are placed in a paid position in one of several on-site
departments that will expose them to a particular trade or skill area.
